Your Guide to Summer in Annapolis
By summer, Annapolis starts to feel like one long evening near the water. Boats idle through Ego Alley while people crowd around dock bars waiting for a table. Even simple plans tend to stretch out here. After checking in at Annapolis Waterfront Hotel, you may head out for a quick walk along the harbor and somehow end up staying out until sunset.
That’s especially true during summer event season, when nearly every weekend gives visitors another reason to stay a little longer downtown.
Naval Traditions Take Over the City
May 2026
Commissioning Week is a great time to be out and about in Annapolis. You’ll see families gather around City Dock taking photos in dress whites, and Midshipmen will be out celebrating all over downtown between ceremonies.
One of the most memorable moments of the week is the USNA Formal Color Parade on May 21. Midshipmen march from Bancroft Hall to Worden Field in full dress uniform alongside the Naval Academy Band and Pipes and Drums, and visitors often love to hang out and watch.
Beyond the Harbor at the Spring Berries and Wild Edibles Opening Walk
May 24, 2026
After a few days around downtown Annapolis, escaping to Honey’s Harvest Farm for a daytrip feels like a breath of fresh air. Instead of crowded sidewalks and marina traffic, you’re walking through fields picking berries and learning which plants growing nearby are actually edible.
Guests leave with cartons full of fresh berries, but honestly, the slower pace is the bigger draw. It’s a nice reset before heading back toward the waterfront.
A Weekend Full of Irish Spirit
May 29–30, 2026
The Annapolis Irish Festival leans fully into the fun of a summer festival weekend. Beer tents serve up icy brews, live bands keep the crowd going most of the day, and by Saturday afternoon almost everyone seems to be dancing somewhere. Between the music, food vendors, and easy atmosphere, it’s a good time to party like the Irish.
Outdoor Dining on West Street
Wednesdays | May 20 – September 30, 2026
Dinner Under the Stars is one of those Annapolis traditions visitors always wish their hometown had. Every Wednesday night, West Street closes to traffic so restaurants can push tables outside while live music takes over the block.
People wander between restaurants carrying cocktails, groups stop in the middle of the street to dance when the band picks up, and nobody seems especially interested in ending the night early.
Fireworks on the Chesapeake
July 4, 2026
Fourth of July in Annapolis always pulls people toward the water. By evening, nearly every dock, rooftop, and waterfront restaurant is full, with boats packed tightly across the harbor waiting for fireworks to start.
Watching from shore is great, but being out on the water during the fireworks feels especially Annapolis. Watermark’s July 4th cruise gives guests front row views of the skyline while the fireworks reflect across the harbor around them.
Blues Rock After Dark
August 5, 2026
Rams Head On Stage has always been one of the best places in Annapolis to catch live music without dealing with arena crowds or massive venues, and The Cold Stares feel especially well suited for the space. The modern blues rock trio brings a louder, more stripped back sound that fits perfectly inside this intimate venue.
Expect heavy guitar riffs, Southern rock influence, and plenty of songs to sing along to.
A Quieter Look at Annapolis History
August 9, 2026
The Free School Museum is easy to miss if you only stick to the waterfront, which is part of why people end up loving it once they visit. Inside the one room schoolhouse, you’ll find old textbooks, colonial artifacts, and small details that make Annapolis history feel more personal than polished.
It’s not a huge museum stop that takes over your entire day. It’s more the kind of place you wander into for an hour and leave glad you found.
Spend your summer days at Annapolis Waterfront Hotel to have the city’s best events right outside your door.
