United States Naval Academy

  • Since 1845, the United States Naval Academy has played an integral role in the history of Annapolis and the nation. Today it is a prestigious four-year service academy that prepares midshipmen to be professional officers.  A visit to "The Yard" - the enchanting grounds of the USNA - is a must for visitors to Annapolis.

Campus is filled with spectacular Beaux Arts architecture and historical markers commemorating naval events, including Bancroft Hall (the world's largest student dormitory), Memorial Hall, Main Chapel, Statue of Tecumseh, Herndon Monument, Crypt of John Paul Jones, the bronze statue of Bill the goat (the Navy mascot), the foremast of the USS Maine and the Jeanette Monument, dedicated to the crew lost while exploring the Arctic in 1891.

At the Armel-Leftwich Visitors Center, guests can immerse themselves in the life of a midshipman with official USNA gear at the gift shop, a student life exhibit and the 13-minute film, The Call to Serve.  Public walking and riding tours are also available for departure from the visitors center.

A highlight of any campus visit is the U.S. Naval Academy Museum located in Preble Hall.  The museum includes an exhibit of artifacts entitled "Leadership and Service: The History of the United States Navy and the Naval Academy" and the famous Rogers Collection of antique ship models.

Recently renovated to bring elements of the neighboring Academy’s history and maritime traditions into the hotel, the Annapolis Waterfront Hotel has partnered with this iconic institution to provide one-of-a-kind opportunities for guests to immerse themselves in U.S. Naval Academy heritage. Each package represents the independent spirit of the hotel, a member of Marriott International’s Autograph Collection Hotels, and embraces the collection’s commitment to providing experiences that are “Exactly Like Nothing Else”. Enjoy these exclusive U.S. Naval Academy experiences as guests of the Annapolis Waterfront Hotel.
